PRACTICE SPECIALTY - RENAL-INFORMED PSYCHIATRY
Mental health care for adults living with kidney disease and chronic illness.
Psychiatric medication behaves differently when kidney function changes. Novascend is built around that reality — for patients on dialysis or with CKD, and for the nephrologists, transplant teams, and dialysis units who refer to us.
CKD & dialysis expertise
Depression, anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue evaluated in the context of kidney disease, dialysis schedules, and transplant workup.
Medication safety
Renally dosed prescribing with attention to eGFR, dialysis clearance, QTc risk, lithium and stimulant caution, and interactions with your nephrology regimen.
Collaborative care
Direct communication with nephrology, dialysis units, transplant teams, and primary care so psychiatric care never works against the medical plan.
Care where treatment happens
Telehealth statewide in California, plus in-person and mobile visits to dialysis clinics, SNFs, and assisted living in Los Angeles County.
For referring nephrologists & dialysis teams
Timely evaluations, renally appropriate prescribing, and clear notes back to your team. Facility and dialysis-clinic coverage is arranged by written proposal — no specialty surcharge for individual CKD or dialysis patients.
Meet John, Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Careful listening, careful medicine.
A chart can document your diagnosis, laboratory results, and treatment. It cannot fully show the fear, exhaustion, or uncertainty you may be carrying.
For a decade, I cared for people receiving dialysis. I saw how easily anxiety, depression, exhaustion, and uncertainty could be overlooked while patients were managing complex medical treatment.
My background also includes behavioral health nursing, charge-nurse leadership in skilled nursing, and hospital and medical-group case management through roles with Providence Medical Foundation and UCLA Health.
Those experiences shaped the care approach behind Novascend Neurowellness: psychiatric care that considers your symptoms, medical history, responsibilities, and goals as parts of one complete story.
That is the whole approach.
